The Premier Earth Auger Drive Unit Shaft Seal 08/12/2015Not all planetary gearboxes are created equal. Premier lives up to their name by looking at every detail and knowing that their reputation is only as good as the products they manufacture. Even when it comes down to something as simple as the output shaft seal, we has chosen to go above and beyond all their competitors by using a labyrinth style output shaft seal. Here is a brief explanation of how a labyrinth seal works. It is actually a two piece seal where one piece rotates with the shaft while the other piece remains stationary. This allows for multiple sealing surfaces within the seal to defend against dirt from coming in and oil from leaking out. This system creates a “labyrinth” of five different lip seals versus the basic double lip seal that is used by all other manufacturers. Everyone knows that a gearbox that loses all of its gear lube will lead to a catastrophic failure. In an earth auger application this seal is critically important since dirt and rocks can be forced against this seal, potentially causing wear. Below are a couple of cross section views of what the Premier seal looks like compared to our competitors. This is just one of the many examples of the Premier Difference. If you have any questions or would like more information feel free to contact us at any time. Check out our complete line of earth auger drive units.
